Sailing

My sailing holidays 2025 can roughly be divided in four parts. One week was planned with Diana and me on Rolling Stone in Schilksee. Due to technical issues with the saildrive we both canceled all sailing activities and used the ship as a swimming hotel, which was (also) a really great idea. We enjoyed the beach and nearby bistros and cafes, which were just a stone’s throw away – and of course the harbor atmosphere. Also long hikes and bike rides provided plenty of exercise. The Strander Bight, the Bülk Lighthouse and the adjacent cliffs of the Eckerförder Bight are simply wonderful places to visit and walk or ride along.

After the first week Diana left Rolling Stone and the following two weeks Rainer, Frank and Jens came on-board. At least this was the plan. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t play along at all and we all had no interest sailing in rainy and windy conditions…we are just too old for that crap xD. Additionally Jens had serious IT problems in his law firm and Rainer was occupied with buying a house (or at least with house tour appointments). To make it short, the two boys left the ship after approximately a week. However, we managed to get to Großenbrode J and visit our Greek restaurant. Of course also “a Grillinger” is an absolute must there. Most important, the general mood was great and despite the bad weather we even went swimming in the Baltic Sea, cause sometimes even the sun came out.

After Jens and Rainer left, Frank and I acted as a well-coordinated double-handed crew. We decided to return to Schilksee, then leave again to go North and visit the cozy harbor of Wackerballig, another of my favorite places. It’s simply wonderful there. After our return to Kiel, I had to go back to work and Frank did his single-handed experiments – successfully to be precise. He sailed Rolling Stone safely to Travemünde, where a big family feast on-board the legendary Flying-P-Line “PASSAT” was arranged.

After the party I returned back on-board again. Fank and I sailed back to Schilksee and Holtenau via Großenbrode of course. In Holtenau Rolling Stone was hauled out by the Dick shiipyard and a great sailing season ended.
